Written by Jeff Bowen and Hunter Bell, the show follows two friends (named Jeff and Hunter) as they collaborate on a musical to submit to the inaugural New York Musical Theatre Festival. With three weeks to go, they try to create the show of their dreams, only to realize that their struggle to write the show is more entertaining than they show they are writing.
After premiering in 2004 at the New York Musical Theatre Festival, [title of show] ran off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theatre in 2006 before transferring in 2008 to Broadway's Lyceum Theatre, where it received a Tony Award nomination for Best Book of a Musical.
A rumored West End production, which would star Bowen, Bell, and their fellow original cast members Heidi Blickenstaff and Susan Blackwell, fell through. Michael Berresse helmed the original production, with Larry Pressgrove providing musical direction.
