British Stage Star Terence Rigby Dies at 71

British actor Terence Rigby, who appeared frequently in both the West End and Broadway, has died at his London home from lung cancer. He was 71.

Rigby began acting as a child and later trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. He played the role of Joey in the world premiere of Harold Pinter’s The Homecoming and the manservant Briggs in the premiere production of Pinter’s No Man’s Land. His other Pinter plays over the years included The Birthday Party and The Caretaker. In addition, Sir Peter Hall directed him in three separate productions of Waiting for Godot, as well as Amadeus, Agamemnon, Troilus and Cressida, The Importance of Being Earnest, and As You Like It. Rigby also appeared on Broadway in Jonathan Kent’s production of Hamlet starring Ralph Fiennes.
