Tony Award winner Sheldon Harnick’s musical adaptation of Moliere’s A Doctor in Spite of Himself will be presented in a concert reading at the 30th annual William Inge Theatre Festival on April 13. David Glenn Armstrong will direct the performance.

The show focuses on a woodcutter who is manipulated by his spiteful wife to impersonate a brilliant doctor. Casting will be announced in the near future.

Harnick’s other musicals include the Pulitzer Prize-winning Fiorello!, as well as She Loves Me, Fiddler on the Roof, The Rothschilds, The Apple Tree, The Body Beautiful, and Tenderloin.

In related news, the Festival has also announced that a reading of a new play from Dael Orlandersmith will be offered on April 14. As previously reported, Marsha Norman has been named the 2011 William Inge Theatre Festival Honoree.
