Siân Phillips, Marianne Rendon, et al. Set for Bitter Sweet at Bard

Casting has been announced for Noel Coward’s Bitter Sweet, re-imagined by by Michael Gieleta, to run August 4-14 at part of Bard SummerScape. Gieleta will also direct the piece, which will be conducted by James Bagwell.

The show centers on how a high-society doyenne recalls her own youthful elopement with a Bohemian musician as her niece contends with a similar life-changing love dilemma. The score contains such songs as including “If Love Were All,” “I’ll See You Again,” and “Zigeuner.”

The company will feature Siân Phillips (Lady Shayne), Marianne Rendon (Dolly), Joel Johnstone (Vincent), Brian Maxsween (Henry), Sarah Miller (Sarah/Sari), William Ferguson (Carl), Ryan Speakman (Lord Shayne), Justin Randolph (Hugh/Tranisch), Joshua Jeremiah (Sir Arthur/Captain Lutte), Claire Simard (Mrs. Millick), Amanda Squitieri (Manon), and David Schnell (Herr Schlick).
