Debbie Allen to Direct New Dickens-Inspired Musical Twist at Alliance Theatre

Debbie Allen will direct the new musical Twist, which will open the Alliance Theatre‘s 2010-2011 season, running September 1 – October 3. With a book by William F. Brown, music by Tena Clark, and lyrics by Tena Clark, the musical resets Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist in New Orleans in 1928. Casting and the creative team for the production will be announced shortly.

The Alliance has also announced dates for the other previously reported shows that it will produce in the coming year: Sammy and Me will run October 1-24 and be followed by Pearl Cleage’s The Nacirema Society Requests the Honor of Your Presence at a Celebration of Their First One Hundred Years (October 20-November 14) and Middle School the Musical (October 23-30).

During the holidays The Second City: Miracle on 1280 Peachtree Street will play November 5 – December 12 and the theater’s annual production of A Christmas Carol will run November 26 – December 24.

The schedule for the new year includes Jeff Whitty and Lin-Manuel Miranda‘s new musical Bring It On: The Musical (January 12 – February 20), David Robinson’s Carapace (February 11 – March 6), Honk! (March 5-20), Josh Tobiessen’s Spoon Lake Blues (April 1-24), and Tracy Letts’ August: Osage County (April 13 – May 8).
