The Carpetbagger’s Children, Liberty Smith, Sabrina Fair and More Set for Ford’s Theatre’s 2010-2011 Season

Ford’s Theatre has announced its 2010-2011 season, which will open with Samuel A. Taylor’s Sabrina Fair, to run October 1-24. Samuel A. Taylor will direct this play about a chauffeur’s daughter, who, after living in Paris for five years, returns home with new-found sophistication.

The theater’s schedule also includes Horton Foote’s The Carpetbagger’s Children (January 21 – February 13). Mark Ramont will direct this portrait of three Texan sisters in the age of Reconstruction.

Next spring, Ford’s Theatre will produce the world premiere of Liberty Smith (March 23 – May 21). With music by Michael Weiner, lyrics by Adam Abraham, and a book by Abraham, Marc Madnick, and Eric R. Cohen, the show, to be directed by Matt August, focuses on the Revolutionary War-era title character, who’s a friend to George Washington, an apprentice to Benjamin Franklin and plays a role in Paul Revere’s historic ride.

The company’s schedule will be rounded out with a production of Michael Wilson’s adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol (November 20 – January 2), its daytime one-action production of Richard Hellesen’s One Destiny (October 12-30 & April 4 – May 28), and its History on Foot walking tours, to be offered in the fall and next spring and summer.
