Shakespeare Theatre Company, Ford's Theatre, Zeitgeist DC to Present Reading Series logo
Shakespeare Theatre Company and Ford's Theatre are set to team with The Goethe-Institut's Zeitgeist DC and its producing partners, the Embassies of Switzerland, Austria, and Lichtenstein to present staged readings of works by some of Europe's most well-known current playwrights, June 13-27.

Marius von Mayenburg's The Ugly One, a comedy on beauty, identity, and getting ahead in life, will be presented June 13. Shakespeare Theatre Company's Associate Director Alan Paul will direct. Oil by Lukas Bärfuss, a wickedly funny play which challenges the materialistic values of Western civilization, will be staged on June 20, and Ford's Theatre Society's Mark Ramont will direct. On June 27, David Dower will direct hamlet is dead. no gravity by Ewald Palmetshofer. In the piece, Palmetshofer's language and comic rhythm ultimately leaves just one question open: To resign or to act?

Zeitgeist DC (Spirit of the Times) is a new literary producing collective dedicated to fostering cross-cultural experiences by bringing the Washington DC community the most interesting and serious-minded literary artists to speak about pressing contemporary issues.
