Jennifer Mendenhall has replaced Carla Harting in Arena Stage’s world premiere production of Karen Zacarias’ Legacy of Light, currently running through June 14. Harting suffered a broken leg, due to a bike accident, and is unable to continue in the production.

The play is described as “a funny and moving romp about the passion for truth as lived by two different women in their separate eras.” The cast also includes Lise Bruneau as Émilie du Châtelet, with Stephen Schnetzer, Michael Russotto, Lindsey Kyler, and David Covington.

Mendenhall, who will play Olivia, previously appeared in Arena’s The Revenger’s Comedies and Pygmalion. Other recent credits include Woman and Scarecrow (Solas Nua); The Accident (Theatre J); A Beautiful View, and Crestfall (Studio Theatre Second Stage). She received a Helen Hayes Award nomination for Electra at MetroStage.

Matinee and evening performances of Legacy of Light were cancelled on Sunday, May 31 due to Hasting’s medical emergency, but all upcoming performances will take place as scheduled with Mendenhall in the role of Olivia.
