Tony and Emmy Award winner Mandy Patinkin will star in Rinne Groff’s Compulsion at Yale Repertory Theatre, to run January 29 – February 28. Oskar Eustis, artistic director of the Public Theater, will direct the play, which is being co-produced by Yale Rep, the Public and Berkeley Repertory Theatre.

The play centers on Sid Silver (Patinkin), a man obsessed with the diary of Anne Frank. The character is inspired by Meyer Levin, the journalist and screenwriter who helped publicize the existence of the diary, and who came to believe that the chance to adapt it for the stage had been stolen from him. Additional casting and creative team will be announced at a later date.

Patinkin won a Tony for his role in Evita, and his additional Broadway credits include Sunday in the Park With George, The Wild Party, Falsettos, Mamaloshen, and The Secret Garden. He received an Emmy Award for his work in Chicago Hope, and his additional film and television credits include Criminal Minds, The Princess Bride, Yentl, and Ragtime.
