Carla Gugino to Star in Long Wharf Theatre’s Sophie’s Choice; 2011-2012 Season Announced

The Long Wharf Theatre has announced seven of the eight productions that will comprise its 2011-2012 season, which will include David Rintel’s stage adaptation of William Styron’s Sophie’s Choice (April 25 – May 20), to be directed by Gordon Edelstein and featuring Carla Gugino in the title role.

The production will be seen on the company’s mainstage, which will feature a revival of the Fats Waller revue, Ain’t Misbehavin’ as its season opener. Richard Maltby Jr., the show’s original director and co-bookwriter (with Murray Horwitz), will direct the production, to run October 26-November 20.

Other mainstage productions will include Joe Landry’s It’s a Wonderful Life – A Live Radio Play (December 7-30), an adaptation of Frank Capra’s classic to be directed by Eric Ting, who will also helm Macbeth 1969, his adaptation of Shakespeare’s tragedy. The Long Warf mainstage season will also feature Darko Tresnjak’s revival of John Van Druten’ s look at a witch and her love affair with a mortal, Bell, Book & Candle (March 7 – April 1), and

On its Stage II, Long Wharf will present the new musical February House (February 15 – March 18). With songs and lyrics by Gabriel Kahane and a libretto by Seth Bockley, the piece, to be directed by Davis McCallum, centers on the editor George Davis and the Brooklyn boarding house he turned into an artistic commune for the likes of Carson McCullers, W.H. Auden and Gypsy Rose Lee.
