Playing the Assassin begins performances tonight at TheaterWorks, in Hartford, Connecticut. Based on a true story, the play examines former NFL star Frank Baker, known as "The Assassin" during his time as a player. Remembered for his brutal tackles, but down on his luck, Baker receives a second chance when he’s offered an interview on CBS before the Super Bowl. However, just when he thinks he’s receiving a reprieve, he and the interviewer are bombarded by secrets and revelations. This play strives to look at the problems currently plaguing the NFL, including race, hero worship, and violence.

Directed by Joe Brancato and written by David Robson, the show features Garrett Lee Hendricks and Ezra Knight.

The creative team includes Ed McCarthy (light design), Charlotte Palmer-Lane (costume design), Brian Prather (set design), Emily Auciello (sound design), Ron Piretti (fight design), and Kate J Cudworth (stage manager).

Performances will run through April 26.
