Luther Creek, Brynn O’Malley, Brian Charles Rooney, Paul Anthony Stewart, et al. Set for Yale Musical Workshops

The Yale Institute for Music Theatre has announced cast and creative teams for upcoming workshops of three original music theater works, with open-to-the-public readings at the Off-Broadway Theatre (41 Broadway, in New Haven, Connecticut). A reception will follow each reading.

Joe Calarco will direct Cancer? the musical (June 20, 4pm), with music, book, and lyrics by Sam Wessels, and featuring musical direction by Robert Meffe. The show chronicles the first dizzying nine months of a man’s cancer diagnosis and treatment. The cast will include Daniel Binstock (Sam), Danielle Frimer (Ensemble), Patty Goble (Mom), Douglas Hummel-Price(Ensemble), Miles Jacoby (Hand), Emily Jenda (Ensemble), Jason Reiff (Ensemble), and Christopher Shyer (Dad).

Christopher Cerrone’s Invisible Cities (June 19, 4 pm), detailing an encounter between Kublai Khan and Marco Polo, will be directed by Robin Guarino, with musical direction by Julian Wachner, and dramaturgy by Cori Ellison. The cast will feature Abigail Fischer (Woman 2), Amanda Hall (chorus, soprano), Joe Mikolaj (chorus, tenor), Elizabeth Picker (chorus, mezzo), Stephen Salters (Kublai Kahn), Vince Vincent (chorus, baritone), Amelia Watkins (Woman 1), and Tracy Wise (Marco Polo).

Mark Brokaw will direct POP! (June 20, 12:30 pm), featuring book and lyrics by Maggie-Kate Coleman and music by Anna K. Jacobs. The show re-imagines the events leading up to the shooting of Andy Warhol as a pop-art murder mystery show. Music Direction will be by David Loud, and the cast will include Hannah Corrigan (Valarie), Luther Creek (Andy Warhol), Brynn O’Malley (Viva), Kristen Paige (Edie), Ken Robinson (Ondine), Brian Charles Rooney (Candy), and Paul Anthony Stewart (Gerard).
