Jeff McCarthy, Jay O. Sanders, Lili Taylor, Vanessa Redgrave, Harris Yulin Set for January 16 Long Wharf Reading

Lili Taylor will join the previously reported Jeff McCarthy, Jay O. Sanders, Harris Yulin, and Vanessa Redgrave in a staged presentation of Philippe Sands’ book Torture Team at Long Wharf Theatre, at 7pm on January 16. The reading is adapted and directed by Gordon Edelstein.

Torture Team tells the story of attorney Sands’ investigation of Donald Rumsfeld’s 2002 memo, authorizing the new interrogation techniques that led to torture at Guantanamo Bay and beyond. The stage version will use text from the book along with video clips from the movie Judgment at Nuremberg and material from Murat Kurnaz’s memoir Five Years of My Life: An Innocent Man in Guantanamo.

Following the presentation, the performers will discuss the piece with theatergoers. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to The Center for Victims of Torture.
