Ashlie Atkinson to Headline January Joiner: A Weight Loss Horror Comedy

Long Wharf Theatre to present world premiere of Laura Jacqmin’s play about the battle of the bulge.

What could be more perfect for ringing in the new year than a play about the challenges of dieting?

New Haven’s Long Wharf Theatre will present the world premiere of Laura Jacqmin’s new play, January Joiner: A Weight Loss Horror Comedy, January 9-February 10. Eric Ting will direct the production.

The work focuses on two sisters who grow apart, as well as the American obsession with weight and the size of our bodies. Jacqmin’s other plays include Ski Dubai, Look, We Are Breathing, and Dental Society Midwinter Meeting.

The cast includes Theatre World winner Ashlie Atkinson (Fat Pig) as Terry, Anthony Bowden (Romeo and Juliet) as Brian, Tonya Glanz (Slasher) as April, Meredith Holzman (Death of a Salesman) as Myrtle, Maria-Christina Oliveras (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson) as Not-Terry, and Daniel Stewart Sherman (Desire Under the Elms) as Darnell.

The creative team is comprised of Narelle Sissons (sets), Oana Botez (costumes), Stephen Strawbridge (lights), and Leah Gelpe (sound).
