Kathleen Marshall will direct a reading of Dick Scanlan’s new adaptation of the Meredith Willson musical, The Unsinkable Molly Brown, as part of the Colorado New Play Summit, to be presented by Denver Center Theatre Company at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, February 12-14.

Based on the original book by Richard Morris, the new version will also incorporate never before heard compositions from the Willson trunk. Marshall won Tony Awards for her choreography for Wonderful Town and The Pajama Game, for which she also received Tony nominations in the directing category. She is currently represented on Broadway by the revival of Grease. Scanlan received Tony nominations for his book and lyrics to Thoroughly Modern Millie.

New Play Summit readings will also include Eventide by Eric Schmiedl, based on the novel by Kent Haruf; When Tang Met Laika by Rogelio Martinez, about the American-Russian collaboration on the International Space Station; Take Me to the River by Constance Congdon, about a farming family and based on real stories; and Flooded by Julie Marie Myatt, about a TV meteorologist turned oracle.

The summit will also include the world premieres of Inana by Michele Lowe, and Dusty and the Big Bad World by Cusi Cram, as well as a panel discussion by nationally-known artistic directors.
