Second City’s production of Rod Blagojevich Superstar, has extended its run at Chicago Shakespeare Theater’s home at Navy Pier, through September 6. Matt Hovde directs, with musical direction by Boaz Reisman and choreography by Lisa McQueen.

The show, by Ed Furman (book) and T.J. Shanoff (music and lyrics), is a musical account of the rise and fall of ex-Governor Rod Blagojevich, and sold out its engagement at Second City’s home space. The production at CST will feature new music and frequent updates — incorporating Blagojevich’s brother, his $100,000 book deal, and Roland Burris’ son as the Illinois political saga continues to unfold. Following each performance, the cast will improvise a 20-minute political comedy set based on audience suggestions.

The cast includes Joey Bland (Rod Blagojevich), Lauren Dowden (Lisa Madigan), Randall Harr (Richard Mell/Pat Fitzgerald), Lori McClain (Patti Blagojevich) and Sam Richardson (Roland Burris).
