Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Beth Henley’s new play, The Jacksonian, starts performances tonight at Profiles Theatre. Artistic director Joe Jahraus directs.

Set in 1964 in Jackson, Mississippi, the play revolves around Bill Perch, who has just been kicked out by his wife. He moves into the seedy Jacksonian Motel and becomes immersed in its strange depths. there he encounters not only a gold-digging motel employee and a treacherous bartender, but his own teenage daughter and his now-estranged wife, with each character bringing new poignancy to his downward spiral. At the center of all these events is a mysterious murder. Full of suspense and dark humor, the play presents the subversive as commonplace and presents time as eerily unpredictable.

The cast features Betsy Bowman as Eva, Tim Curtis as Bill Perch, Christian Isely as Fred, Juliana Liscio as Rosy Perch, and Rachel Sledd as Susan.

The creative team includes Katie-Bell Springmann (set design), Raquel Adorno (costume design), Michael Rathbun (lighting design), Oliver Hickman (sound design and original music), Jeff Gamlin (assistant director), and Miles Mabry (stage manager).

Performances will run through October 11.
