Patrick Andrews, Edward Gero to Star in Goodman Theatre’s Red

Edward Gero will play painter Mark Rothko and Patrick Andrews will play Ken, Rothko’s young new assistant, in John Logan’s Red, to run September 17 – October 23 at the Goodman Theatre. Robert Falls will direct the production, which will subsequently be offered at Arena Stage in Washington, DC.


The play charts the friendship between the more experienced Rothko and the young man whom he hires to work in his studio.

Gero has won Helen Hayes Awards for his performances in Skylight at The Studio Theatre, and Henry IV, Richard II, and Macbeth at Shakespeare Theatre Company. He was previously seen at the Goodman in King Lear. Among his other regional credits are appearances at Round House Thatre, Signature Theatre, Theater J, Arena Stage, Ford’s Theatre, and Centerstage.

Andrews’ stage credits include productions in Chicago at the Goodman Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Writers’ Theatre, Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook, About Face Theatre, American Theater Company, Marriott Theatre Lincolnshire, and Chicago Shakespeare Theater, as well as such regional theaters as McCarter Theatre Center, Kansas City Repertory Theatre and Walnut Street Theatre.
