Ian McDiarmid to Star in Chicago Shakespeare’s Timon of Athens

Chicago Shakespeare Theatre has announced casting for Shakespeare’s Timon of Athens, to run April 24 – June 10. Barbara Gaines will direct the production.


The play centers on a wealthy Athenian who, when his fortunes turn, discovers that his former friends have become ruthless creditors, pushing him into utter financial freefall.

The company will feature Tony Award winner Ian McDiramid in the title role, along with Sean Fortunato (Flavius), James Newcomb (Apemantus), Danforth Comins (Alcibiades), Kevin Gudahl (Poet/Judge), Sean Blake (Timander), William Dick (Jeweller/Senator), Terry Hamilton (Ventidius/Old Senator); David Lively (Sempronius), Samuel Taylor (Lucius/Thief), Demetrios Troy (Banker/Varro/Thief), Bruce A. Young (Lucullus), Timothy Edward Kane (Painter), and John Byrnes (Caphis).

The ensemble will include Wesley Daniel, David Schlumpf, Jen Donohoo, Noelle Kayser, Luke Manley, Bianca Lozano Sanders, and Malachi Squires.

The creative team will be comprised of choreographer Nicolas Blanc, scenic designer Kevin Depinet, costume designer Susan E. Mickey, lighting designer Robert Wierzel, and projection designer Mike Tutaj, along with Lindsay Jones, who will provide original music and sound design.
