Goodman Theatre Announces Cast for Tanya Saracho's El Nogalar
The play, presented by the Goodman and commissioned by Teatro Vista, is set in present-day Northern Mexico and sprinkled with Spanish, Spanglish and Espanglés. The plot borrows from Chekhov, as it tells the tale of Maite and her daughters who can't stand the idea of losing their family's home and beloved orchard to developers -- but their time and money are running out. Despite warnings from her family and friends, Maite ignores her declining fortune as ardently as she has ignored the social consequences of the Mexican Revolution.
The cast will include Charin Alvarez as Maite; Sandra Delgado as Valeria and Christina Nieves as Anita, Maite's daughters; Carlo Lorenzo Garcia as Lopez, the family's longtime friend; Yunuen Pardo as the family's housekeeper, Dunia; and Bert Matias as the Old Man.
The design team will include Brian Sidney Bembridge (set), Christine Pascual (costumes), Jesse Klug (lighting) and Joe Cerqua (sound).
