Chicago Shakespeare Theater Announces Cast for Elizabeth Rex

Chicago Shakespeare Theater has announced casting for its 25th anniversary production of Elizabeth Rex, November 29-January 22. CST Artistic Director Barbara Gaines will direct.

Timothy Findley’s play is a fictional drama set in Shakespeare’s time. On the eve of the beheading of her court favorite and rumored lover the Earl of Essex, Queen Elizabeth was entertained with a royal command performance by William Shakespeare and his company. Findley imagines the troubled Queen’s impassioned confrontation with an ailing actor who dares to reveal the woman buried beneath the role of the Virgin Queen.

The cast will star Diane D’Aquila as Queen Elizabeth, Steven Sutcliffe as Ned, and Kevin Gudahl asWilliam Shakespeare. Also featured will be Bradley Armacost as Percy, Torrey Hanson as Lord Cecil, Eric Parks as Matt, Andrew Rothenberg as Jack, Mary Ann Thebus as Tardy, Brenda Barrie as Lady Mary, and Matt Farabee as Harry.
