Full Casting Has Been Announced for the World Premiere of Amazing Grace

The production stars Erin Mackey, Tom Hewitt, and more.

Broadway In Chicago has announced complete ensemble casting for the world premiere of Amazing Grace, a new musical based on the true story behind the famous Christian hymn, starring Tony Award nominee Josh Young (Jesus Christ Superstar). The Chicago world premiere will play at the Bank of America Theatre from October 9-November 2, with opening night set for October 19. Following the Chicago's run, the production plans a Broadway transfer with dates and a theater to be announced.

Amazing Grace features a score by Christopher Smith, a book by Smith and Arthur Giron, choreography by Tony winner Christopher Gattelli, and direction by Gabriel Barre. As previously announced, the production will star Young, Erin Mackey (South Pacific at Paper Mill Playhouse), Tony nominee Tom Hewitt (Jesus Christ Superstar), Tony winner Chuck Cooper (Act One), Chris Hoch (Matilda The Musical), Stanley Bahorek (Honeymoon in Vegas), Harriett D. Foy (Mamma Mia!), and Laiona Michelle (The Book of Mormon national tour).

The newly announced ensemble will also feature Marija Abney, Leslie Becker, Sara Brophy, Rheaume Crenshaw, Miquel Edson, Mike Evariste, Sean Ewing, Rachael Ferrera, Savannah Frazier, Christopher Gurr, Abdur-Rahim Jackson, Allen Kendall, Elizabeth Ward Land, Michael Dean Morgan, Oneika Phillips, Clifton Samuels, Gavriel Savit, Dan Sharkey, Bret Shuford, Evan Alexander Smith, Uyoata Udi, Charles E. Wallace, Toni Elizabeth White, and Hollie E. Wright.

The musical follows John Newton (Young), a musically talented young Englishman coming of age at a time when Britain sat atop an international empire of slavery, as he travels through a perilous high-seas voyage that brings him to a transformative moment of self-reckoning.
