The New York Times reported today that the critically acclaimed off-Broadway hit Buyer & Cellar, starring Drama Desk Award winner Michael Urie in a tour-de-force solo performance, recouped its $500,000 capitalization in just nine weeks of performances at the Barrow Street Theatre.

Buyer & Cellar opened at the Barrow Street Theatre on June 24 following a month-long run at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater. Written by Jonathan Tolins and directed by Stephen Brackett, the play follows a struggling L.A. actor named Alex More (Urie), who becomes an assistant, of sorts, to megastar Barbra Streisand.

Buyer & Cellar is scheduled to end its off-Broadway run on January 5, 2014. Urie then plans to take the show to Chicago for a spring 2014 run at the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place, followed by a run at the Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles from July 9-August 17.
