Quixote Nuevo Begins Performances at California Shakespeare Theater

Octavio Solis reimagines Cervantes’s ”Don Quixote” along the modern day US-Mexico border.

The world premiere production of Quixote Nuevo begins performances tonight at California Shakespeare Theater.

A music-filled, contemporary retelling of Miguel de Cervantes's classic Spanish novel Don Quixote, Octavio Solis's adaptation takes us on a journey to the fictional modern-day border town of La Mancha, Texas, where an aging Don Quixote loses himself in stories of chivalrous escapades and embarks on a quest of imagination, adventure, and Tejano music. K.J. Sanchez directs.

Featured in the cast are Juan Amador, Carlos Aguirre, Hugo Carbajal, Emilio Delgado, Gianna DiGregorio Rivera, Michele Apriña Leavy, Sol Castillo, Amy Lizardo, and Sarita Ocón. They are supported by the creative team comprising Annie Smart (scenic design), Ulises Alcala (costume design), Wen-Ling Liao (lighting design), David R. Molina (co-composer and music director, sound design), and Eduardo Robledo (co-composer and music director).

Performances continue through July 1.
