James Earl Jones and Cicely Tyson Return to Broadway in The Gin Game
Valerie Simpson, Alfre Woodard, and more were on hand to welcome the pair back to the stage.
Stage legends James Earl Jones and Cicely Tyson celebrated their triumphant returns to Broadway in D.L. Coburn's The Gin Game on Wednesday, October 14. Directed by Leonard Foglia, the production is running at the John Golden Theatre, where it began performances September 23.
In the Pulitzer Prize-winning drama, Weller Martin (Jones) and Fonsia Dorsey (Tyson) meet on the porch of their nursing home and strike up a friendship, with Weller teaching Fonsia how to play gin rummy. The two share stories as they play, but when Fonsia wins every hand, Weller becomes increasingly frustrated.
Guests at the opening-night festivities included singer Valerie Simpson, Emmy winners Alfre Woodard and Lynn Whitfield, and many more. Check out TheaterMania's photos in the gallery below.
