Roundabout Theatre Company has announced today that managing director Harold Wolpert will step down from his role this October to pursue new opportunities. Plans for the managing director position will be announced soon.

A three-time Tony Award winner, Wolpert joined the Roundabout as managing director in July 2005, following five years as general manager at Manhattan Theatre Club. At the request of the board, Harold has agreed to stay on through the middle of 2017 as a consultant on various issues critical to the institution.

"Harold has been a truly extraordinary business partner. His management and leadership skills have allowed the theater to grow and thrive over the past decade, culminating in the enormous success of our current 50th anniversary season," said artistic director Todd Haimes in a statement. "Harold evolved the company’s marketing strategies including highly developed social and digital media efforts…I am thankful to Harold for agreeing to work in a consulting capacity following his departure. I will miss him both personally and professionally and wish him well in his future endeavors."

Wolpert has also represented Roundabout as vice president of the League of Resident Theatres (LORT) and a board member of Theatre Communications Group (TCG). He was an adjunct lecturer for the Brooklyn College MFA Program in Performing Arts Management for nine years, and recently was a guest lecturer for Shanghai Theatre Academy. Currently he volunteers for the Trevor Project, the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) young people ages.
