American Ballet Theater principal dancer Misty Copeland will join the cast of Broadway's On the Town starting tonight.

Copeland's limited run will last only 12 performances, through September 6, at the Lyric Theatre. She will make her Broadway debut in the role of Ivy Smith, a part that was previously played by New York City Ballet dancers Megan Fairchild and Georgina Pazcoguin.

On the Town, which opened on October 16, 2014, was created by the legendary creative team of Leonard Bernstein, Betty Comden, Adolph Green, and Jerome Robbins. The musical is described as a love letter to New York City that tells a story of three sailors who aim to conquer the Big Apple while on 24-hour shore leave.

The production was nominated for four 2015 Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical, Best Choreography (Joshua Bergasse), Best Direction of a Musical (John Rando), and Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for Tony Yazbeck in the role of Gabey.

The revival also stars Jay Armstrong Johnson and Clyde Alves as sailors Chip and Ozzie, as well as Alysha Umphress and Elizabeth Stanley as Hildy and Claire DeLoone.
