Jessica Lange to Return to Broadway in Long Day's Journey Into Night

Academy Award winner Jessica Lange (American Horror Story), along with Golden Globe winner Gabriel Byrne (In Treatment) and Tony winner John Gallagher Jr. (The Newsroom), will star in a 2016 Broadway revival of Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Long Day’s Journey Into Night. The production, part of Roundabout Theatre Company's 50th anniversary season, will begin previews on March 31, 2016, with opening night set for April 19, 2016, at the American Airlines Theatre.

Jonathan Kent directs the semiautobiographical four-act drama, which is widely considered both O'Neill's magnum opus and one of the best plays of the 20th century. Lange will take on the role of the morphine-addicted matriarch Mary Tyrone, with Byrne as aging actor patriarch James Tyrone, and Gallagher as tubercular son Edmund. Casting for the roles of Jamie and Cathleen will be announced in the coming months.

Lange returns to Broadway after her four-season, multiple Emmy-winning run on FX series American Horror Story. She received an Olivier Award nomination for her performance as Mary Tyrone in an unrelated 2000 West End revival of Long Day's Journey Into Night, as well as Oscars for her work in the films Tootsie and Blue Sky. She last appeared on Broadway in a 2005 revival of The Glass Menagerie.

No stranger to the work of O'Neill, Byrne returns to Broadway following his 2005 run in Roundabout's revival of O'Neill's A Touch of the Poet. He received a Tony nomination for his performance in the 2000 revival of A Moon for the Misbegotten. Gallagher makes his first New York stage appearance since 2011's Jerusalem. He won a Tony for his work in Spring Awakening.

Roundabout presents Long Day's Journey Into Night in association with Ryan Murphy, the producer of TV's Glee and American Horror Story.
