La La Land Musical Headed to Broadway
The six-time Oscar-winning movie-musical La La Land is getting a new stage adaptation, with plans to eventually land on Broadway. This is according to Deadline, which broke the story.
The project is set to be directed by Bartlett Sher, the Tony-winning director of lavish musical revivals at Lincoln Center Theater including South Pacific, The King and I, and My Fair Lady. Sher is currently directing the Broadway revival of Camelot, which is set to open in April.
The stage adaptation will feature a new book by Ayad Akhtar (President of PEN America and Pulitzer Prize winner for Disgraced) and three-time Barrymore Award winner Matthew Decker. The Academy Award-winning composing team (music by Justin Hurwitz, lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul) will reunite for this stage venture.
Written and directed by Damien Chazelle, the 2016 film La La Land stars Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling as an actress and a jazz musician chasing their dreams (and finding each other) in Los Angeles.
Tony-winning producer Marc Platt, who also produced the movie, announced the project.
