Hadestown Becomes Longest-Running Show in the History of the Walter Kerr Theatre

At today's matinee performance, Hadestown made history, becoming the longest-running show in the 100-year history of the Walter Kerr Theatre. With its 918th performance, the Tony-winning musical surpasses previous record-holder Proof, as well as other notable productions including A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, Doubt, Love! Valour! Compassion!, Angels in America, among others.
Hadestown began preview performances at the Kerr on March 22, 2019, and opened April 17, 2019. Featuring a book and score by Anaïs Mitchell and direction by Rachel Chavkin, the musical follows two intertwining love stories — that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone. The Broadway production won eight 2019 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Direction.
The cast currently stars Jewelle Blackman as Persephone, Grammy Award winner Reeve Carney as Orpheus, Tony Award nominee Tom Hewitt as Hades, two-time Tony Award nominee Eva Noblezada as Eurydice, and Tony Award winner Lillias White. They are joined by Amelia Cormack, Shea Renne, and Soara-Joye Ross as the Fates. The chorus of Workers is played by Emily Afton, Malcolm Armwood, Alex Puette, Trent Saunders, and Grace Yoo. The company also includes swings Brandon Cameron, Tara Jackson, Max Kumangai, and Yael "YaYa" Reich.
