A knee injury didn't stop Andy Karl from celebrating his opening night in the new musical Groundhog Day at the August Wilson Theatre on April 17. Karl performed the new Tim Minchin-Danny Rubin musical and received a wild standing ovation at the end of the show.

Directed by Matthew Warchus, the musical is inspired by the 1993 film which tells the story of Phil Connors (Karl), a disgruntled big-city weatherman mysteriously stuck in small-town America as he relives the same day over and over. The musical premiered in 2016 at the Old Vic Theatre in London and recently won the Olivier Award for Best New Musical. Karl took home a trophy for his performance, as well.

The company also features Barrett Doss, Rebecca Faulkenberry, John Sanders, Andrew Call, Raymond J. Lee, Heather Ayers, Kevin Bernard, Gerard Canonico, Rheaume Crenshaw, Michael Fatica, Katy Geraghty, Camden Gonzales, Jordan Grubb, Taylor Iman Jones, Tari Kelly, Josh Lamon, Joseph Medeiros, Sean Montgomery, William Parry, Jenna Rubaii, Vishal Vaidya, Travis Waldschmidt, and Natalie Wisdom.
