Flashback Friday: Taylor Trensch Knows "The Bitch of (High School) Living"

Watch the ”Dear Evan Hansen” star rock out in the 2009 touring cast of ”Spring Awakening”.

Taylor Trensch is the latest actor to take on the title role in Dear Evan Hansen, the Tony-winning musical about an anxiety-ridden teen who gets caught up in a snowballing lie. Trensch was last seen on Broadway in the upbeat Jerry Herman musical Hello, Dolly! where he played the sweet and innocent Barnaby Tucker, but he had his fair share of practice at angsty adolescence early in his career in the 2009 national tour of Spring Awakening.

Only a sophomore in college, he took a leave from Elon University to take on the role of Moritz Stiefel, a struggling student who finds it hard to maneuver through the world of adults. It's been nearly a decade, and yet, Trensch finds himself back in Broadway high school — so it feels like the right time to celebrate his eternal youth. Here he is on tour singing the opening verse to "The Bitch of Living," a song Evan Hansen would surely sing as well if he were a fan of Duncan Sheik.
