Beautiful to Offer Free Tickets to Furloughed Federal Employees

Workers affected by the partial government shutdown will be given free admission during select evening performances of ”The Carole King Musical”.

Beautiful: The Carole King Musical has announced that federal employees on furlough as a result of the partial government shutdown will be given free admission to the Broadway show for select Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday performances.

"The shutdown has affected so many government employees in a really negative way," said producers Paul Blake and Mike Bosner in a statement. "If we can offer those affected by this shutdown a moment of escape and joy, then we feel it is important to do so and is truly the least we can do."

To claim a ticket, eligible federal employees must present valid government identification at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre box office on the day of the desired performance. Tickets will only be available in person, and is only valid for the duration of the shutdown.

With a book by Douglas McGrath and songs from the catalogue of Gerry Goffin, Carole King, Barry Mann, and Cynthia Weil, Beautiful officially opened at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre on January 12, 2014. The show follows the life and career of singer-songwriter King and colleagues Goffin, Mann, and Weil, and features songs including "Will You Love Me Tomorrow," "One Fine Day," and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman."

Chilina Kennedy is currently playing Carole King, with the rest of the cast including Evan Todd as Gerry Goffin, Kate Reinders as Cynthia Weil, Ben Jacoby as Barry Mann, Paul Anthony Stewart as Don Kirshner, Tony Award nominee Liz Larsen as Genie Klein, and an ensemble that includes TyNia Brandon, Gabrielle Elisabeth, Matt Faucher, Alex Hairston, Mike Longo, Douglas Lyons, Stephanie Martignetti, Jay McKenzie, Paris Nix, Elena Ricardo, Nathan Scherich, Housso Semon, Sara Sheperd, Michael Stiggers, Yasmeen Sulieman, Salisha Thomas, Daniel Torres, and Melvin Tunstall.
