Be More Chill Reveals New Artwork for Broadway Run

The new Joe Iconis and Joe Tracz musical developed a following with runs off-Broadway and at New Jersey’s Two River Theater.

Be More Chill, the new musical featuring music and lyrics by Joe Iconis and a book by Joe Tracz, has unveiled new artwork for its Broadway launch, beginning February 13 at the Lyceum Theater.

"We were so thrilled and completely honored to be included in the process of designing the new artwork for Be More Chill," said Iconis. "It was a little terrifying to think of changing the basic image we've had since 2015, which is why it was important for us to maintain the key component of the image. The subject of the Be More Chill artwork has always been an average, nothing-special, slightly nerdy kid. What we love about the new version is that we've elevated our average Joe (or Average Jeremy, as it were) to the level of full-blown poster boy."

"Our electric neon, '80s and '90s-inspired imagery is an unabashed celebration of a geeky misfit," said Tracz. "Our poster isn't a glamour shot of a fancy model, it's a geek-tastic explosion of sci-fi neediness, complete with a backpack and a prominently displayed alien monster emoji. We can't wait to see this thing reflected in the cab windows of Times Square. Or on the label of an out-of-print game from 1992 or a vintage cassette from 1987."

Inspired by the novel by Ned Vizzini, Be More Chill is directed by Stephen Brackett with choreography by Chase Brock.

The off-Broadway engagement at Signature Theatre starred Will Roland as Jeremy and George Salazar as Michael, joined by Gerard Canonico as Rich, Katlyn Carlson as Chloe, Stephanie Hsu as Christine, Tiffany Mann as Jenna, Lauren Marcus as Brooke, Britton Smith as Jake, Jason Tam as The Squip, and Jason SweetTooth Williams as Jeremy's Dad and Mr. Reyes. Cameron Bond, Troy Iwata, and Talia Suskauer were the company swings.

The creative team includes Beowulf Boritt (scenic design), Bobby Frederick Tilley II (costume design), Tyler Micoleau (lighting), Ryan Rumery (sound design), Emily Marshall (musical direction), and Charlie Rosen (orchestrations). The musical premiered in 2015 at Two River Theater, in Red Bank, New Jersey.
