Alex Boniello to Take Over as Connor Murphy in Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway
Tony nominee Mike Faist will depart the cast this May.
The Broadway cast of Dear Evan Hansen is set to welcome new members to the Music Box Theatre this spring. Original Tony-nominated cast member Mike Faist will play his final performance as Connor Murphy on Sunday, May 13. Taking over the role will be Alex Boniello, who begins his run on Tuesday, May 15. Fellow original cast member Will Roland, who performs the role of Jared Kleinman, will also depart the production on Sunday, June 10. His replacement will be announced in the coming weeks.
Alex Boniello most recently appeared on Broadway as the voice of Moritz in Deaf West Theatre's Tony-nominated revival of Spring Awakening, and this past winter, he originated the role of Blaine Tuttle in Cruel Intentions: The Musical at (le) Poisson Rouge. Boniello's additional theater credits include Brooklynite (Vineyard Theatre), Here's Hoover! (Abrons Arts Center), I Am Harvey Milk (Lincoln Center), and the national tour of Green Day's American Idiot.
With a Tony-winning score by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, and a Tony-winning book by Steven Levenson, Dear Evan Hansen is described as follows: "A letter that was never meant to be seen, a lie that was never meant to be told, a life he never dreamed he could have. Evan Hansen is about to get the one thing he's always wanted: a chance to finally fit in."
The cast currently stars Taylor Trensch as Evan Hansen, Phoenix Best as Alana Beck, and original cast members Laura Dreyfuss as Zoe Murphy, Mike Faist as Connor Murphy, Tony winner Rachel Bay Jones as Heidi Hansen, Michael Park as Larry Murphy, Jennifer Laura Thompson as Cynthia Murphy, and Will Roland as Jared Kleinman.
