James Barbour, Karen Mason, Howard McGillin Set for Broadway’s Rebecca to Open at Broadhurst Theatre November 18

The new Broadway musical Rebecca will now begin previews at the Broadhurst Theatre on Tuesday, October 30, with an opening set for Sunday, November 18. As previously reported had been scheduled to open in April, but postponed to give its producers more time to complete capitalization.
The musical is based on the classic novel by Daphne du Maurier and tells the story of Maxim de Winter, his new wife (“I”) and Mrs. Danvers, the controlling and manipulative housekeeper of Maxim’s West Country estate of Manderley — where the memory of his first wife, the glamorous and mysterious Rebecca, still casts a shadow.
The show features an original book by Michael Kunze, music by Sylvester Levay, English book adaptation by Christopher Hampton, and English lyrics by Hampton and Kunze. Michael Blakemore and Francesca Zambello will direct, with musical staging by Graciela Daniele.
The cast will include Karen Mason as Mrs. Danvers, Howard McGillin as Frank Crawley, James Barbour as Jack Favell, Donna English as Beatrice de Winter, Nick Wyman as Giles and Henry Stram as Ben.
Casting for the roles of “I” and Maxim de Winter — which were previously to have been played by Sierra Boggess and Tam Mutu — will be announced in the coming weeks.
The production will feature scenic design by Peter J. Davidson, costumes by Jane Greenwood, lighting by Mark McCullough, sound by Peter Fitzgerald, hair & wig design by Tom Watson, special effects by Gregory Meeh and projections by Sven Ortel. Musical direction and supervision is by Kevin Stites.
The Broadhurst is currently housing A Streetcar Named Desire, which is playing a limited 16-week engagement.
