Works by David Henry Hwang, Moises Kauffman, Lynn Nottage Set for Boston’s Lyric Stage Company Season

The Lyric Stage Company‘s 2012-2013 season has been announced. Tickets go on sale August 22.
The season will open with The Mikado, with music by Arthur Sullivan and libretto by W.S. Gilbert. The show, which features three little maids from school, a wandering minstrel, a pompous government official, and the Lord High Executioner, runs September 9-October 13. Adapted by Aaron Posner and Chaim Potok (the latter of whom wrote the original novel), The Chosen will be on stage October 19-November 17 and follows two boys from different cultural groups as their relationships with each other, their families, and their own spirituality evolve in 1940s Brooklyn.
Next comes Chinglish, which follows the amusing antics of an American businessman looking to cash in on the growth potential of a bustling Chinese province. Written by David Henry Hwang, the show is performed November 30-December 23.
The new year begins with Moises Kaufman‘s 33 Variations about a mother coming to terms with her daughter and a composer coming to terms with his gifts. The show runs January 4-February 2. Stones in His Pockets by Marie Jones, February 15-March 16, is the hilarious and poignant story of a rural Irish village turned upside down by the arrival of an American film crew.
Lynn Nottage‘s By the Way, Meet Vera Stark takes a funny and irreverent look at racial stereotypes in Hollywood. The show is live March 29-April 27. Finally, based on an idea of Jerome Robbins, On the Town, running May 10-June 8, tells the story of Chip, Ozzie, and Gabey – three American sailors with one day in New York City to see the sights, meet a girl, and have the time of their lives. The show features book and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green and music by Leonard Bernstein.
