Varla Jean Merman will star in SpeakEasy Stage Company’s production of The Divine Sister, to run October 21-November 19 at the Stanford Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts. Larry Coen will direct.

Written by Charles Busch, the play is an inspired homage to every Hollywood film ever made about nuns. The gleefully twisted tale tells the story of an indomitable Mother Superior trying to cope with a young postulant experiencing “visions,” a sensitive schoolboy in need of mentoring, a mysterious nun visiting from Berlin, and a former suitor intent on luring her away from her vows.

Varla Jean Merman (aka Jeffrey Roberson) recently starred Off-Broadway in Lucky Guy, with her solo shows including The Loose Chanteuse, I’m Not Paying For This, Girl With A Pearl Necklace, An Act Of Love, Under A Big Top, Holiday Ham!, All Washed Up! and The Very Worst of Varla Jean Merman. She has performed around the world including the Sydney Opera House, Australia as well as Carnegie Hall and has made numerous television appearances including a recurring role on All My Children as well as special appearances on Project Runway and Ugly Betty. She recently finished shooting her new feature film, Varla Jean & The Mushroomheads.

Tickets go on sale in September. For more information, click here.
