Theater artists, theater company administrators, and theater lovers from around New England will gather at the Boston Opera House on Sunday, June 7, for the biennial conference organized by nonprofit theater service organization StageSource. Under the theme "Who Are We? How do we tell our stories differently?," the conference features a full day of conversations, workshops, panel discussions, and networking.

The day begins with a keynote speech by Julie Burros, the new chief of arts and culture for the city of Boston. Following her talk, Burros will be joined by Jason Weeks of the Cambridge Arts Council and Anne Houston of the Mass Cultural Council for a panel discussion focusing on the role of arts and culture in communities.

The balance of the day features sessions of interest to all people involved in theater, and also includes "tracks" of sessions aimed at those with specific interests, such as actors, playwrights, and professionals involved in marketing and fundraising. Among the offerings are:

• brief presentations on new initiatives in the theater sector, including gender parity, diversifying audiences, new playwriting initiatives, theater spaces, and improving access.

• workshops to provide hands-on-skills training in how to create messages to define your organization or yourself as an actor, work with new pieces of theater, pitch your play to potential producers, approach funders more effectively, manage volunteers, and advocate for change.

• panel discussions to showcase new and innovative approaches in building audiences, engaging board members, collaborating with other organizations, and providing increased access.

The day will conclude with a reception and celebration to mark the kickoff of StageSource’s 30th-anniversary year.
