Regular Singing begins performance tonight at New Repertory Theatre at Arsenal Center for the Arts.

The play is set on the the 50th anniversary of the Kennedy assassination. The Apple family gathers to celebrate the life of an ailing relative: talking, eating, laughing, and singing. This slice-of-life snapshot shows how family histories can intersect with the history of our country. It is the conclusion of playwright Richard Nelson's four-play cycle, the Apple Family Plays.

Weylin Symes directs the cast, which includes Joel Colodner (Benjamin), Laura Latreille (Jane), Karen MacDonald (Barbara), Paul Melendy (Tim), Bill Mootos (Richard), and Sarah Newhouse (Marian). Regular Singing is produced in association with Stoneham Theatre, with whom Symes and company previously worked on Apple Family play installments That Hopey Changey Thing and Sorry.

The creative team includes scenic designer Crystal Tiala, costume designer Gail Buckley, lighting designer Jeff Adelberg, sound designer David Wilson, and stage manager Anna Burnham.

"Director Weylin Symes and this amazing cast of Boston-area favorites have built a rich and compelling world for the Apple Family to inhabit," says New Repertory managing director Harriet Sheets. "For these actors and this director to have worked with the same characters for nearly two years is a remarkable undertaking. This funny and reflective work is a richly woven tapestry of contemporary American family life, one which I think will certainly charm New Rep audiences."

Performances run through September 25.
