Emerging America Festival Announces Additional Programming

Additional programming has been announced for the Emerging America festival, which will launch May 14-16. Presented by The American Repertory Theater, Huntington Theatre Company, and the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston, events will take place at all three artistic homes throughout the weekend: the A.R.T. @ OBERON, the Huntington’s Calderwood Pavilion at the BCA, and the ICA.

The festival is devoted to supporting and launching new voices in American theater, and will bring some of the country’s most promising performers, writers, companies and directors to Boston.

Throughout the festival, there will be Podcast and Walking Tours during which you can discover secret locations and favorite haunts of local and national voices. Among the contributors to this project are Diane Paulus, Artistic Director, A.R.T.; Peter DuBois, Artistic Director, Huntington Theater Company; David Henry, Director of Programs, I.C.A; Robert Brustein, Founding Director, A.R.T.; Ryan Walsh, of the band Hallelujah the Hills; Rachel Chavkin, Director, The TEAM; D.W. Jacobs, playwright; Kelly Kerrigan, Fort Point artist; Ryan Landry, Huntington Playwriting fellow and Gold Dust Orphans leader; Ken Urban, Huntington Playwriting Fellow; Martha Jane Kaufman, Huntington Playwriting Fellow; and Steven Sapp, Artistic Director, Universes.

The festival will kick off on Friday night at the ICAs living-art-dance party: Experiment America, at 9:30pm. There will also be a “Join the Conversation! Brunch” at the Calderwood Pavilion on Sunday, May 16 at Noon, and a Festival celebration party on Sunday, May 16 at 10pm at OBERON.

Previously announced events include Dan Hurlin’s Disfarmer; a double bill of Amy Herzog’s Love Song in Two Voices and Steven Levenson’s Seven Minutes in Heaven; David Hanbury and Michael Goldfried’ Mrs. Smith Presents featuring Hanbury and Ryan Landry; Universes’Live from the Edge; The TEAM’s Particularly in the Heartland ; Los Angeles-based performance collective My Barbarian’s Post-Living Ante-Action Theater (Club Remix); A.R.T.’s The Donkey Show; Witness Relocation’s Vicious Dogs on Premises; and Salvatore LaRussa Dance Theatre’s Decode.
