Tony nominee Diane Paulus will direct the world premiere of Johnny Baseball, The New Red Sox Musical at the American Repertory Theatre, beginning May 14, with an opening set for June 27.

The musical features a book by Richard Dresser, music by Robert Reale, and lyrics by Willie Reale, and was previously announced under the title Red Sox Nation. The show is a blend of fact, fiction, and the mystical power of the game of baseball which attempts to trace the origin of the famed “Red Sox Curse.”

Paulus is the new artistic director of A.R.T. She received a Tony nomination for her direction of the Broadway revival of Hair and her additional directorial credits include The Donkey Show and Eli’s Comin’.
