Celebrity Series of Boston Announces 75th Anniversary Season
The 2013-2014 season will include world class performing artists such as saxophonist Sonny Rollins and pianist Benjamin Grosvenor.
The Celebrity Series of Boston, a program that brings world class performers to Boston, has announced its 2013-2014 75th anniversary season. Set to begin on September 28 with jazz tenor saxophonist Sonny Rollins, whose show will include pianists, vocalists, and cellist Yo-Yo Ma.
In addition to Rollins, the fall's jazz performances will include the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis and the Wayne Shorter 80th Birthday Celebration. From September 27-October 14, the Celebrity Series of Boston will bring 75 pianos by artist Luke Jerram into Boston's public spaces as part of the "Play Me I'm Yours" outdoor installation event. Soprano Deborah Voigt will perform her autobiographical program, Voigt Lessons, November 21-22.
Pianist Marc-André Hamelin will be featured in The Art of the Piano, a three-part series, from December to May, with other piano performances including Kathryn Stott playing alongside Yo-Yo Ma on March 21. Also in March, The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under music director Zubin Mehta will play on March 19, and the LA Philharmonic under music director Gustavo Dudamel will play on March 23. On March 20 and April 11, The Takács Quartet will perform the complete Bartók string quartet cycle.
The spring will offer the East Coast premiere of a fully staged production of Mozart's arrangement of Handel's opera Acis and Galatea, helmed by director and choreographer Mark Morris, playing May 15-18. And simultaneously, an outdoor dance celebration, Le Grand Continental, will mark the grand finale of the 75th season, from May 16-18.
