Cambridge, Massachusetts' American Repertory Theater will present a sensory-friendly performance of The Light Princess on December 30 for children with autism spectrum disorders and other sensory sensitivities. The production, now playing at the Loeb Drama Center, is set for an official opening on December 6.

Social stories, a character guide, and read-aloud version of The Light Princess will be made available to all families before the performance date. A touch tour, which includes a tactile tour of costumes and production materials, along with storytelling of The Light Princess, will precede the sensory-friendly performance. Adaptations will include reduction of stage lighting and sound, moderate theater lighting for visibility, designated quiet areas outside the auditorium, and other accommodations.

Directed by Allegra Libonati, The Light Princess features a book by Lila Rose Kaplan, and music and lyrics by Mike Pettry. It is a whimsical children’s musical, based on a fairy tale by George MacDonald, that follows a princess who is cursed by a witch to live without gravity.
