Aimee Doherty, Edward Hoopman, Robert Pemberton, Thomas Piper, et al. Cast in New Rep’s 2009-2010 Season

New Repertory Theatre, in residence at the Arsenal Center for the Arts, has announced preliminary casting for productions in its 2009-2010 season.

The Mainstage season will kick off with Thomas Heggen and Joshua Logan’s 1948 Tony-winning drama, Mister Roberts (September 13-October 3), to be directed by the company’s new artistic director Kate Warner. Thomas Piper will play the title role, with Paul D. Farwell as the Captain, and Jonathan Popp as Pulver. Next up will be David Mamet’s Speed-the-Plow (October 18-November 7), to be directed by Robert Walsh. The three-hander will feature Robert Pemberton as Bobby Gould, Aimee Doherty as Karen, and Gabriel Kuttner as Charlie Fox. Chris Craddock’s farcical comedy Indulgences, to be directed by Warner, will follow, January 17-February 6. The cast will include Edward Hoopman as Malcolm, Joel Colodner as Man 1, and Neil A. Casey as Man 2.

Jim Petosa will direct the New England premiere of Michael Hollinger’s Opus (March 28-April 17). The final show on the Mainstage will be the musical Hot Mikado (May 2-22), based on Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado, and featuring book and lyrics adapted by David H. Bell. Warner will again direct, with musical direction by Todd C. Gordon and choreography by Kelli Edwards. Casting for both of these productions will be announced at a later date.

New Rep’s Downstage productions, presented in its black box theater, will include Adrienne Krstansky starring in Lisa Kron’s 2.5 Minute Ride (October 4-24), to be directed by M. Bevin O’Gara, and Peter Sinn Nachtrieb’s boom (February 21-March 13), to be directed by Bridget Kathleen O’Leary. The company will also present the holiday shows, Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol (December 6-27) and David Sedaris’ The Sanataland Diaries (December 16-January 3).
