Actors’ Shakespeare Project's production of God's Ear starts tonight at the Davis Square Theatre. Mel and Ted are desperately trying to hold their marriage together after their son’s death in a tragic accident. However, language proves a fickle friend in their struggle as it works to protect each as they use it to act one another. Additionally, the play works on a surreal level to deliver advise and counseling from the Tooth Fairy, transvestite flight attendants, and GI Joe.

Written by Jenny Schwartz, the production is directed by Thomas Derrah, and it features Marianna Bassham as Lenora, John Kuntz as the flight attendant and GI Joe, Ann Carpenter as the Tooth Fairy, Josephine Elwood as Lanie, Tamara Hickey as Mel, Gabriel Kuttner as Ted, and David Rich as Guy.

"I think this play is a perfect fit for ASP as it's a company whose stated emphasis is on the actor," said director Thomas Derrah. "I can't think of a contemporary piece of writing that would appeal to an actor's curiosity more. God's Ear is also a perfect fit for a company of actors devoted to language…Sometimes we have only our words and sometimes they betray us when we need them most…what a profound exploration for a company of artists who rely on the spoken word to heal, inspire and communicate."

The creative team includes Jeff Adelberg (light design), Cristina Todesco (set design), Gail Astrid Buckley (costume design), and Edward Young (sound design).

Performances will run through April 12.
