Actors' Shakespeare Project Earns a Place in Shakespeare in American Communities Program

The National Endowment for the Arts, in partnership with Arts Midwest, has selected Boston's Actors' Shakespeare Project to participate in the Shakespeare in American Communities program for the seventh consecutive year. ASP will be awarded a $25,000 grant to help fund performance-related educational activities around the company's production of The Comedy of Errors, scheduled to run from September 24-October 19. The program will reach an estimated 350 students and 22 teachers at Boston Day and Evening Academy, Charlestown High School, and two Department of Youth Services classrooms.
ASP director of education Mara Sidmore will lead the curation of the program's various activities, which will include an August Teacher Institute at Salem State University, SWAT Team (Shakespeare Weapons and Tactics) workshops with 10 Boston area schools, and multiple school matinees and post-performance discussions.
Shakespeare in American Communities was founded in 2003 and has benefited more than 2.25 million individuals, including 1.9 million students, with live performances and educational activities. ASP is one of 40 professional theater companies selected to participate in the program.
