Shoshana Bean, Mark Rylance, Tracee Chimo, Jenni Barber Receive 2017 IRNE Noms

The New England theater award nominees have been announced.

The Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE) have announced the nominees for the 21st annual IRNE Awards, to be presented Monday, April 24, in the ballroom of the Holiday Inn Brookline/Boston.

This year's list of nominees was led by Fiddlehead Theatre Company’s critically acclaimed revival of Showboat, heading the Musical/Large Theater categories with 16 nominations. American Repertory Theatre's Fingersmith and Huntington Theatre Company's Bedroom Farce earned nine and eight nominations, respectively, in the Best Play/Large Theater categories.

In the mid-size slots, SpeakEasy Stage Company earned a total of 32 nominations for its productions of The Scottsboro Boys, Significant Other, Dogfight, Violet, and Bootycandy, while New Repertory Theatre received 13 nominations for its productions. Moonbox Productions earned 14 nods for its fringe productions of The Wild Party and Amadeus.

Acting nominees include Broadway vets Shoshana Bean (Funny Girl), Jenni Barber (Sunday in the Park With George), Bradley Dean (The Hunchback of Notre Dame), Tracee Chimo (Fingersmith), Mark Rylance (Nice Fish), Russell Harvard (I Was Most Alive With You), and Adrienne Barbeau (Pippin), among others.
