Williamstown Theatre Festival’s American-debut production of Kinship starts its run tonight. The play centers on the relations of a fiery newspaper editor, an upstart journalist, and the journalist’s overly protective mother. Their high-strung, high-stress lives begin to come apart when a passionate entanglement becomes an inescapable power struggle.

Written by Carey Perloff and directed by Jo Bonney, the show features Emmy Award winner Penny Fuller, Chris Lowell, and Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Award winner Cynthia Nixon.

The creative team includes Rachel Hauk (set design), Candice Donnelly (costume design), Philip Rosenberg (lighting design), Fitz Patton (sound design), and Jennifer Wheeler Kahn (stage manager).

Performances will run through July 25.
