Berkshire Theatre Festival to Present Musical Mondays Series

Berkshire Theatre Festival will present Musical Mondays, a series of readings of classical musicals to take place in the Colonial Theatre during Mondays in August at 2pm.

Ralph Hammann will curate the series, which will kick off on August 1with a reading of Good News featuring a book by Laurence Schwab, B.G. DeSylva and Frank Mandel, with words and music by DeSylva, Brown and Henderson. This new adaptation by Mark Madama and Wayne Bryan will be directed by Ralph Hammann with musical direction and accompaniment by Mark Gionfriddo.

On August 8, the series will feature Take Me Along based on the Eugene O’Neill play Ah, Wilderness, with music and lyrics by Bob Merrill and book by Joseph Stein and Robert Russell. On August 15 will be Strike Up the Band with a book by Morrie Ryskind, lyrics by Ira Gershwin, and music by George Gershwin.

The series will conclude on August 22 with a very special tribute to legend Richard Wilbur, who is celebrating his 90th birthday this year. The program will feature selections of his work in drama, musical theater and poetry.
